About the Author

You’re reading the Journal of this User-Interface Enthusiast, Shaun O’Connell.
By day, I’m an Information Architect slash UI Developer based in Cape Town, South Africa.

I started my web development career in 2000 working for Dimension Data.  It wasn’t until 2003 (when I joined Consology) that I learned about Web Standards and started applying my work in the Standards direction.

Over the years I’ve learned that:

  • it is possible to rely solely on CSS for all the style aspects of a website – no more tag soup!
  • web content should be meaningful not only to the developer but to the consumers, who or whatever they may be.
  • there’s always a better solution to a web development challenge
  • User Experience based design is the way forward

I find my inspiration on the web, the creative people behind it and in the people that use it.

About this blog

I started this blog in an effort to share (I’m a firm believer that knowledge should be shared). What better platform than a blog to facilitate this sharing.

I write about aspects of Web-based User Interface development.  That could be:

  • HTML and CSS
  • Web Application Development
  • Graphic Design
  • Usability
  • Industry News
  • and other topics

I hope you find this blog useful.
